The Miraculous Destruction of the Twin Towers

NIST on the Twin Towers (c)

It would not be surprising to find the NIST report to contain fraudulent science, given the fact that by 2007, a statement charging the Bush administration of engaging in "distortion of scientific knowledge for partisan political ends" had been signed by over 12,000 scientists (including 52 Nobel Laureates and 63 recipients of the National Medal of Science).

Therefore, NIST's report on the WTC must be viewed as a political, not a scientific, document.

We can suspect in advance that NIST's claims will not hold up, because the NIST team had the impossible task: To explain the collapses of the towers while denying that explosives helped.

The Miraculous Destruction of the Twin Towers

NIST on the Twin Towers (e)

Here, now, are several miracles endorsed by the NIST report.

The Miracle of Free Fall

The difficulty of providing a plausible hypothesis can be seen by considering a statement by Dr. David A. Johnson, an internationally known architect and city and regional planner:

As a professional city planner in New York, I knew those buildings and their design....So I was well aware of the strength of the core with its steel columns....When I saw the rapid collapse of the towers, I knew that they could not come down the way they did without explosives and the severing of core columns at the base....The official explanation doesn't hold water.

In other words, Mr Johnson said, the official story required a miracle.

The Miracle of Free Fall (2)

The miracle to which Mr Johnson referred is implicit in NIST's acknowledgement that both Towers came down "essentially in free fall." Each tower had 287 steel support columns--240 perimeter columns and 47 massive core columns. A steel frame building can come down rapidly, as Mr Johnson pointed out, only if the core columns have been severed, and this severing could only be done with explosives. But NIST insisted that there were no explosives.

The Miracle of Free Fall (3)

In trying to explain how an essentially free-fall descent could have been possible, NIST said that each airliner took out several perimeter and core columns at its area of impact and also created huge fires, which began weakening the steel. After a period of time, "the massive top section of each building at and above the fire and impact floors" fell down on the lower section, which "could not resist the tremendous energy released by the top section's downward movement."

But this would be miraculous, in the sense of violating the laws of physics. As researcher Mr Jim Hoffman said, NIST's hypothesis "requires us to believe that the massive steel frames of the lower structure of the towers provided no more resistance to falling rubble than would air."

The Miracle of Free Fall (4)

A more technical explanation was provided by structural engineer Mr William Rice, who said that NIST's account "violates Newton's Law of Conservation of Momentum." This law, he explained, requires that, "as the stationary inertia of each floor is overcome by being hit," the speed of descent must decrease.

The Miracle of Free Fall (5)

A 2016 report by Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, entitled "World Trade Physics," is oriented around this law, as shown by its subtitle: "Why Constant Acceleration Disproves Progressive Collapse." As a paper by Professor Graeme MacQueen and Mr Tony Szamboti explained, the fall of the top section would have needed to produce "one powerful jolt" to the lower structure in order to initiate its collapse, and this jolt would have caused a great deceleration in the collapse. But by tracking the fall of the roof, one can see that there was no slowing down: The building came down with constant acceleration. Hence NIST's theory is false.

The constant acceleration can only be explained by the use of explosives to cut all the steel columns supporting the building: The "towers provided no more resistance to falling rubble than would air" because the rubble was falling through the air.

The Miracle of Free Fall (6)

Just how remote NIST's theory is from reality has been described by mechanical engineer Mr Gordon Ross. His analysis of the collapse of the North Tower showed that, far from failing to retard the downward movement of the building's upper portion, the lower portion would have quickly and completely stopped the top portion's descent. To be precise, the "vertical movement of the falling section would have been arrested," Mr Ross said, "within 0.02 seconds after impact. A collapse driven only by gravity would not continue to progress beyond that point."
- Professor David Ray Griffin

The South Tower’s Mid-Air Miracles

Whereas the free-fall miracle involved both towers, there was a miracle unique to the South Tower (WTC 2). This tower was struck at the 80th floor, so its upper portion consisted of a 30-floor block. As videos of the beginning of this building’s collapse show, this block began tipping toward the corner that had been most damaged by the airplane’s impact. According to the law of the conservation of angular momentum, this section should have fallen to the ground far outsider the building’s footprint. “However,” Mr Jim Hoffman and fellow 9/11 researcher Mr Don Paul observed,

As the top then began to fall, the rotation decelerated. Then it reversed direction [even though the] law of conservation of angular momentum states that a solid object in rotation will continue to rotate at the same speed unless acted on by a torque.

The South Tower’s Mid-Air Miracles (2)

And then, as if this were not miraculous enough, physicist Mr Steven Jones added:

We observe that approximately 30 upper floors begin to rotate as a block, to the south and east. They begin to topple over, not fall straight down. The torque due to gravity on this block is enormous, as is its angular momentum. But then—and this I’m still puzzling over—this block turned mostly to powder in mid-air! How can we understand this strange behavior, without explosives?
